Drag racing is great motorsport as it takes distance and time to calculate speed. Reaction times off the starting line may be the difference between a win or a loss! This one-eighth mile of all concrete alcohol class race track is great to see a team in action. They have an open-pit section so people can watch the crew chief and pit crew tear the engine down between rounds. The leaderboard has team standings and who has lane choices, as some racers would like to choose their preferred lane to race on. Kids love it when the cars shoot flames into the air while the front of the car hops off the ground as the car takes off! See the photos below of this excellent IHRA class race track!
The Ethridge Motorsports Park Race Track
There are several classes of cars that race here. Some cars are street cars that have been improved with bigger engines and transmissions made for racing. The pro mod cars are high-speed cars that need the extra 1,600 feet of shutdown room to come to a stop after their parachute opens up safely. The park has 8 acres of paved parking for pit area parking and 6 staging lanes so that cars don't back up in a long line waiting their turn.
The Ethridge Motorsports Park is owned by the Burleson family, who has been racing on this track for 30 years. Just about every member has a race car that runs down the track. They also have a team off the track who serve food in the concession area and clean up after each race. The Burlesons are proud to own this dragstrip and are passionate about racing. There is nothing like having a giant hamburger in the grandstands and watching a pro mod light up the night as they take off the starting line. Each season has an end, and they have all kinds of work to do, from cleaning off the rubber that is left on the track to spraying off the concrete pit area from spent oils coming off the cars. This team has their work cut out for them, and yet every year, from April to November, you can see it is all a labor of love for each person to come to see the cars run down the track!
