There are not very many family dairy operations in Tennessee anymore, and there are fewer creameries left in Tennessee or the south, for that matter. At Flowers Creamery, they do everything on-site, from milking and pouring milk into gallon containers to wrapping the cheese! Their store in front of the farm is a testament to the hard work and dedication to the farming way of life. If you want to see how everything is done, take their farm tour on Wednesdays at 11 am and 2 pm, where they take you through each step! You simply must see the farm and creamery when coming to see the Amish! Kids love to see the petting zoo baby calves and how they make milk and cheese.

Adding science to the family farm

Owners Brian and Morgan Flowers took conventional farming and upscaled the efficiency and sustainability to eliminate the problem areas every farm has in common. The waste matter and usability of water and what to feed the animals are vital to keeping the balance of life on a farm. Brian and Morgan decided their farm could do this better, and they built in sustainable permaculture-designed methods to ecologically take care of both waste and water. They have their own corn for silage and hundreds of acres of land for grazing. No wonder they exceed the HFAC or humane farm animal care standards. These cows have it made with every convivence you an have as a cow. They even have a back massager in the feed area to unwind after milking. They have thought of everything! 

The Flowers Creamery store has all kinds of goodies. Some things inside are Amish made from the local community or other locals who make things. Just outside the store is the old truck that Brian would use to carry loads of things in for the farm, but when it was replaced, he set it up for visitors to use as a photo opportunity and to eat ice cream on the tables next to the truck. The meats and eggs are locally harvested just a few miles from the store. The Flowers believe in fresh farm-to-table foods but have now extended the table to the mailbox with their online store where you can order things right to your door!
